From citywide special events to small business branding and public relations, Cutler Communications has strategized and implemented communications efforts to vast media and public response. Cutler Communications has focused her experience on coordinating events, public relations and marketing for downtown districts, suburban districts and Main Streets for the past 20 years from City Avenue Special Services District, to the City of Philadelphia and its districts including historic Old City, Chestnut Hill Business Association, Center City District and the Avenue of the Arts to the Philadelphia International Airport (MarketPlace Redwood) as well as working with individual retailers, restaurants, corporations and non-profit organizations.
Cheri Cutler, principal of Cutler Communications, has 20 years of marketing communications experience encompassing public relations, strategic planning, special event production, collateral development, brand identity positioning, corporate sponsorship, advertising, and managing budget, staff and volunteers.
Cheri has designed and implemented media relations plans on both a local and national level and her clients have appeared on CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS/KYW, FOX, CN8, MTV, The Today Show, Clear Channel, and in Lucky Magazine, Philadelphia Magazine, Philadelphia Style, The New York Times, The Associated Press, Philadelphia City Paper, Self, In Style, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, The Metro, among others. Cheri gained national, regional and local public relations experience at large Philadelphia area marketing agencies including Ketchum Public Relations, Earle Palmer Brown Public Relations, and Weightman where she served an array of clients in a wide range of business, consumer, financial and non-profit organizations. Cheri has created and produced functions ranging in attendance from 50-250,000 guests, including festivals, new building dedications, new store openings, fashion shows, corporate retreats, annual meetings, hotel grand openings, and trade shows. While at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cheri orchestrated all of the global trade shows for the consulting division of Human Resources Management. These endeavors have called for proficiency in a variety of communication practices, including: strategic planning and counseling, brand positioning, news media relations, event management, employee and community relations, crisis communications, and researching and writing skills.
Prior to founding Cutler Communications, Cheri was the Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Manayunk Development Corporation (MDC), a non-profit, economic development corporation. Cheri was responsible for all marketing communications activities for the retail and restaurant district including conceptualizing, planning and executing large-scale events for the First Union USPRO Cycling Championship, the Manayunk Arts Festival, among many other seasonal events. Cheri launched national and regional media campaigns and created the first-ever branding campaign, “Find It In Manayunk.” with very little budget to work with. Prior to MDC, Cheri was the Marketing Director for PREIT’s - The Shops at The Bellevue, an upscale, mixed-use, historic property with fashionable retail shops such as Tiffany’s, Nicole Miller, Ralph Lauren, etc. as well as a gourmet food court, historic hotel and fitness club. Cheri was also the PR/Marketing Director for Reading Terminal Market, where she honed her skills in collaborating with other organizations since she had a zero based budget.
One of Cheri’s biggest PR accomplishments was obtaining a free Super Bowl commercial for client, Jeremy’s Microbatch Ice Creams, through a Mail Boxes Etc. competition. There were more than 2,000 submissions and Cheri was able to win the much coveted (and expensive – to the tune of $2.5 million at the time) spot!
Cheri has been teaching as an adjunct at Temple University a variety of courses in the School of Communications and Theater for the past ten years and serves as an advisory board member for the School of Strategic and Organizational Communication. Additionally, Cheri serves as an advisory committee member for Professional Women’s Roundtable. Cheri is also a member of the Philadelphia Public Relations Association, is involved with Women’s Way and the Young Women’s Initiative, is a silent auction committee chair for Thorncroft Therapeutic Horseback Riding, and is on the board for her alumni association, The University of Michigan, where she received her bachelor’s degree.
Professional awards include a 1993 Pepperpot Award for the grand reopening of the Hotel du Pont (sponsored by the Public Relations Society of America) and the 1996-1997 Merit Awards for the Greater Philadelphia Metro Malls Community Unity Campaigns (sponsored by the International Council for Shopping Centers). Cheri is also a recipient of the 2004 Philadelphia Business Journal “40 Under 40” award for her professional and civic accomplishments.
PoWeR Connections is a once-per-month opportunity for up to 5 PWR members (including one Board member) to develop a deeper relationship with one PWR Advisor over breakfast, lunch or coffee. As the name (more than) implies, the focus of this program is connection versus mentoring, though we envision member questions and Advisors’ experiences and knowledge as great launching points for any gathering.
